Eric Karjaluot of Smashlab provides a convincing thought piece regarding businesses on the web getting smaller. Smaller can be pretty darn viable. With that can come a healthy way to look at your business and success by setting a balance of aspirational and attainable goals .

His approach to defining success is one that I tend to agree with as well. It’s not always about the “big sell” but about generating a means to enjoy your business and personal life. It is definately spot on and worth the read.

We simply want to make enough money from our projects to cover our operating costs and take some time off. With each one, we generate a little extra passive revenue, and with time we won’t have to work as hard as we do now. Again, it’s not unimaginable wealth we desire, but the freedom to do as we wish. So we don’t need a VC, or funding, or an exit to be successful. We just have to build neat stuff that a few people use–so that we can continue to build things we like. Full post is here, go read it.
